Global Warming

When people feel like the weather becomes hotter than the usual, they often blame it to the decreasing number of trees. This talk eventually leads to global warming and its effect all over the globe. But what really connects the trees and the issue of global warming?

Trees are the most important things that can actually fight global warming. Because of its parts, the greenhouse gas that comes from power plants and the cars that people use on a daily basis are absorbed. Moreover, the carbon dioxide is also stored in the trees before it reaches the atmosphere. Without the trees, the CO2 and the greenhouse gas will be trapped at the upper atmosphere, causing it to intensify the heat at the surface of the Earth.

Although all kinds of plants can help in preventing global warming, trees are still the best in performing this kind of environmental task. The process of absorbing and storing the harmful gases are twice faster than the other kinds of plants because of the extensive root structure of the trees and of course, because of its size. Aside from that, trees, compared to the other kinds of plants, has a lot of woody biomass which can store tons of CO2. Therefore, it is the most efficient natural carbon absorber.

Experts said that the trees that easily grow and can live for a long time are the most ideal dangerous gas absorbers. Unfortunately, it is rare that these two factors can be found in a single tree specie.

Aside from that, people who have been studying the relation of trees and global warming said that it would also help if you would plant a tree in a right place as well. Different places have different climates. That is why you must also consider planting the right tree for your location not just any kind of tree. In Hawaii, eucalyptus trees as advisable. On the other hand, you may also plant poplars if you are living in Great Lakes. Aside from that, loblolly pines are ideal if you would plant it at the Southeast part of America. But there are more trees that can be planted and considered perfect in a particular area. It will depend not only at the location but also in the climate and the condition of the area’s soil at the same time.

In order to efficiently help in preventing global warming from worsening, you can plant a tree that is low in maintenance. Some of these low-maintenance trees include Red Oak, Black Walnut, Hispaniolan Pine, Bald Cypress, Ponderosa Pine, American Sweetgum, and Virginia Live Oak. Trees that are high in maintenance would only let the urban land managers to use more equipment that will emit dangerous gasses. If this is the case, there will already be more carbon released in the atmosphere even before the trees can absorb it.

Now that you know how global warming and trees are connected, don’t you think this is the right time to plant a tree in your own backyard?
