Growing plants in a greenhouse is very similar to outdoor gardening. The greenhouse temperature can be controlled. Plants need a lower temperature than house temperatures and more humidity to survive.
You need a clean site that is level and in a low-traffic area. Your greenhouse should be located in a place where it receives the maximum amount of winter sunlight available. However you need to consider the change in angle of the sun between summer and winter seasons, shadows cast by existing structures or trees, among other things. The greenhouse is best situated in the south. You need a greenhouse interior that allow enough room for both potting plants and free movement.
Temperature and ventilation
A greenhouse needs a conducive temperature. A thermometer should be placed in the shade near the middle of your greenhouse to monitor the temperature at different times during both sunny and cloudy weather conditions. You also need a lot of ventilation. The temperature readings you record with the thermometer should be used to determine the plants you can grow and when. To achieve adequate ventilation, spread your plants evenly within the greenhouse, instead of jamming on one bench to distribute the air evenly. You can simply open up one or both doors in the morning and leave them open until late afternoon, depending on the weather. You can also use the simple principle of water evaporation.
Soil and Irrigation
Growing plants in an average home garden greenhouse can be done through commercial potting. The soil should have a mixture that includes sand, perlite, peat moss, vermiculite, and fir bark for good drainage. Only water when the soil is dry. Do not over water in a climate-controlled greenhouse environment because it can even cause the death of the plants. You can apply water to the greenhouse using hand watering, and drip irrigation systems. Drip irrigation systems are better and gentle on seedlings.
Maintenance
Maintaining your greenhouse depends on the maintenance requirements. You can use a scrub brush and some diluted bleach to disinfect the entire greenhouse and be careful not to affect your plants. Rinse the house with clean water.
Produce Tips
Plant your Carrots, turnips, beets, and other root crops in deep boxes.
Tomatoes, cucumbers, peas, vegetables and pole beans will do well in tub-type containers.
Greenhouse gardening is a gardening that require care. Although the same basic gardening skills are required like the outdoor or indoor gardening, you need to take control and responsibility for the environment of your plant in a greenhouse. This increases your duties, more than the normal gardening routine, and takes more time than the regular gardening.
