Most of the conservation efforts that go into the environment are usually centered on trees. These gifts from nature help keep the environment together and keep a balance between the levels of carbon dioxide in the environment. But that is not the only function that trees are limited too. In fact, it’s a long list, but again not all uses can be deemed practical.
Trees have long been depended upon as a source of food. From apples, oranges, berries, mangoes, passions and nuts, the trees have a lot they have to offer. The good news is that all these fruits are natural and healthy, meaning they won’t give you any of the ailments related to dietary choices, and that goes for the oil rich options like macadamias and groundnuts as well. Of course you wouldn’t be able to have all these tree species in your backyard, but one might just suffice.
The most practical use of trees is probably the provision of wood. Yes, we have metal, marble, porcelain and glass, but none of these have the kind of appeal that wood displays. From hardwood floors, to kitchen cabinets, it would be impossible to imagine a household without usage of wood in any room. Furniture is almost exclusively made from wood, and given a skilled carpenter hand; some few pieces of wood can be converted to outstanding works of art. Office desks, coffee tables, sofas all employ wood as the material of make. But it’s important to note that not all trees have the kind of wood that works well with furniture. Hardwoods are the most preferred. Oak, pine and elm have been carpentry choices for decades now, and their quality wood guarantee an infinite use as far as furniture is concerned.
Trees can be employed in a variety of other functions like in soil conservation. A plain field with no vegetation exposes the soil to the forces of nature. Erosion is observed, which reduces the quality of the soil. Thus planting trees can avert this. It also breaks the strength of the wind, thus averting those consequences as well. Others uses include nitrogen fixation which is a necessary function in enhancing the richness of the soil. Truth is one cannot be able to fully explore the practical uses of trees as they are far too many to limit in this context. And though aesthetic appeal is not exactly what you would call a practical use, it still counts as giving meaning to a landscape is one of the loved characteristic of trees.
